Cynthia and I made a road trip from Southern California to Smiths Ferry, Idaho, for the 2017 eclipse. We stayed in a lodge very close to the centerline of totality, and were fortunate to have perfectly clear skies on the day of the eclipse. It was a wonderful experience, and well worth the time and effort. And yes, I did take too much equipment, but it was good preparation for 2024!
Cougar Mountain Lodge, Smiths Ferry, Idaho
The lodge is next to the Payette River, a favorite spot for swimmers and rafters
There were lots of last-minute viewing sites opened up.
